| Students, faculty and staff find value in school's new web portal.

Good Samaritan College of Nursing and Health Science, a private school located in Cincinnati, faced a common problem for many organizations an antiquated, static website in need of a new look and new functionality. Interactive Business Systems (IBS), with its extensive experience in website and portal development, was just the consulting firm that could help.
The College wanted a new web portal that would serve its students, its faculty and its internal staff. The site should be built as a starting point for additional functionality to be added over time. They wanted a place where each of these constituents would be able to access information and current news, and, where appropriate, facilitate online, real-time form submissions and e-commerce functionality. They also wanted an administrative function that would allow staff to easily add documents, update news and events and manage users, while relieving their IT staff of these responsibilities.
The information age requires any business to use the web if it is to reach an audience interested in its products, said Morris Cohen, President of Good Samaritan College. Colleges are no different in needing an internet front door for prospective students and the public to learn about the programs it offers and to communicate with its constituencies.
After completing a thorough analysis, IBS proposed a web portal built on the .NET platform that would make use of current technology capabilities and utilize existing modules that IBS has developed over time, helping to keep costs within the college's budget. Functionality incorporated into this initial first phase includes:
- A newly designed look and feel for the site, including easy, intuitive site navigation
- A public news and events feature with easy administration of news items
- Online submission of admissions applications and requests for information
- Secure logons for faculty, staff and students
- A secure portal for faculty and staff that includes an online library of documents and the ability to upload documents, as well as a news and events feature
- A secure portal for students that includes news and events, a document library, online course registration, online tuition payment, online form to add/drop courses and course evaluation forms
IBS created the information and web architectures to accommodate these features as well as functionality planned for future phases, including a video tour of the school.
