Strategic development results in high-impact website.
Desiring to improve its services to consumers, employees and independent agents, this midwest insurer envisioned an e-commerce site that was dynamic, useful, and reduced operating costs. Specific goals of the web project were:
  • to disseminate underwriting manuals, forms and policy information to its agents
  • to provide online rating and quoting for agents
  • to provide online information to employees, such as benefits information, employee manuals and job listings
  • to provide customer service functions such as finding an agent, obtaining online quotes and requesting company information
  • to create a brochure site to promote the company to both potential agents and potential customers

The company turned to IBS for the design and functionality of the site, the web infrastructure, and the site development. IBS was the chosen partner for the project because of its extensive experience in the industry and previous experience with web design for the insurance industry.

The infrastructure was analyzed, designed and implemented, including a web server farm with load balancing functionality, appropriate security hardware and software, connectivity to legacy systems and monitoring hardware and software.

The look and feel of the site was chosen from three concepts created by IBS, and development and implementation of the static portion of the site was developed.

IBS began the dynamic page development by creating profiles for each potential user of the site. The IBS team determined what functionalities each user would likely want and wrote scripts for their optimum online experience. The team was then able to develop the web pages with the appropriate functionality. More complex functions required advanced programming techniques, database functionality and integration with legacy systems.

Results
The client now has a highly functional site for all its users, with an attractive, inviting interface for the public and a secure portal for agents. Online dissemination of documents saves the company significant printing and distribution costs, and self-service features like policy information, rating and quoting, and online forms reduce service center calls. Additional features of the site include online payments and an email management engine capable of sending invoices automatically.
