Windows, Exchange 2000 Implementation Saves Client Costs and Improves Communications

Business Challenge
This mid-sized insurance company was facing problems maintaining its Lotus Notes email system. The internal IT department lacked the necessary expertise to support the program, and the costs to keep the system up to date were high. A conversion to Microsoft Exchange 2000 would reduce costs to the company and would provide the additional tools and communications capabilities that they sought. Further, the implementation would integrate well with their current Web environment.

Benefit Provided by IBS
The conversion to Exchange 2000 required the implementation of Windows 2000 and Active Directory. IBS analyzed the existing Novell Directory Services which were used to authenticate users, along with providing file and print services. This revealed the need to redesign the directory tree to better meet the needs of the business while providing a more appropriate network design. Further, the partitions and replicas needed to be optimized to improve directory responsiveness and reduce WAN replication traffic. Upon completion of these tasks, the IBS team created a Windows 2000 Active Directory tree and upgraded the primary NT domain to Windows 2000. A migration tool was then used to populate the new Active Directory domain in preparation for the Exchange implementation.
